Light Work Presents the 2022 Art Photography Annual
Light Work announces the 2022 Art Photography Annual exhibition of photographs by seniors in the Department of Film and Media Arts in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The exhibition runs through Thursday, March 10, at Light Work, located in the Robert B. Menschel Media Center, 316 Waverly Ave. A reception with the exhibiting artists will be held on Thursday, March 3, from 6-7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

‘Industry Days’ Bring Alumni to Campus to Assist VPA Students with Professional Development
The College of Visual and Performing Arts' (VPA) Office of Academic and Career Advising is launching a new initiative this semester that will bring alumni to campus to assist VPA students with professional development. Beginning on Friday, Feb. 18, the college will host a series of "Industry Days" focused on the various disciplines within the college. Sharif Bey, an associate professor of studio arts in the School of Art, was named a 2022 USA Fellow by United States Artists, an organization that illuminates the value of artists to American society and addresses their economic challenges. USA Fellowships are $50,000 unrestricted awards, with a year of financial planning, that recognize artists for their contributions to the field and allow them to decide how to best support their lives. Artist Xuan Liu’s works on printmaking, watercolor, digital painting and mixed media are on display through Feb. 25 as part of Syracuse University Libraries’ new Biblio Gallery exhibition, on the fourth floor of Bird Library. Peter Jack Hartsock '19, a film alumnus of the Department of Film and Media Arts and founder of Fantasma House Films, received a $10,000 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts for a short film to be produced in the region this winter. Keane Southard, a Ph.D. candidate in composition at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, has been announced as winner of the 2021 Gregg Smith Choral Composition Contest in the College of Visual and Performing Arts' Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music. The award, which is named for renowned composer and choral conductor Gregg Smith, is given biennially to a composer between the ages of 21 and 35 who has written and submitted a musical composition for a Setnor School choral ensemble.
