Application information and requirements for the School of Art’s master of fine arts (M.F.A.) degree programs in illustration and studio arts are listed below.
Additionally, in conjunction with Syracuse University’s School of Education, the School of Art offers a master of science (M.S.) degree in arts education. Admission to arts education is through the School of Education.

Academic transcript. Unofficial transcript uploaded to the online application. If you are admitted, an official, degree-bearing transcript must be mailed to the University. Applicants must complete a U.S. bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent in another country) before starting a graduate program.
Personal statement/essay. Describe in approximately 500 words your main academic interests, why you wish to study for the degree you have chosen, why you wish to study at Syracuse University, how you expect to finance your studies, and your plans after you receive your degree. Step 2: Submit Your Portfolio
Portfolio Requirements
Once you submit your application to the Graduate School, please allow up to 3 business days of processing. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email along with instructions on how to access your portfolio portal.
15-20 items of your artwork. Please submit each piece as an individual attachment/slide to allow the most accessible opportunity for review. Your artist statement should be submitted with your portfolio in the Syracuse University Applicant Portal.
Once your application has been submitted and reviewed by the faculty committee, you may be contacted to arrange for an on-line meeting to discuss your interest in the program and how it relates to your future goals.
