Ready to apply to a VPA graduate program? As a prospective graduate student, you will apply through the college’s Office of Recruitment and Admissions.

Admission Requirements

All prospective graduate students applying to VPA must complete Syracuse University’s online application and submit any additional materials (in many cases, a portfolio, audition, or interview) to complete your application. International students must also meet these requirements.

Graduate Admissions FAQ

General

When is the application deadline?

February 1 for all programs. December 15 is the early decision deadline for Art Therapy.

How do I apply for scholarships?

Applicants that apply by the deadline are eligible for competitive merit-based scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships. These awards are offered once admission decisions have been sent. There is not a separate application for award consideration. Learn more about our financial aid opportunities.

How much does the program cost?

Tuition is charged per credit with the (2022-2023) tuition rate is at $1,802 per credit. The Cost of Attendance is an estimate of what it will cost for a graduate student to attend Syracuse University for an academic year. Please email VPA Graduate Admissions at for an estimated cost based on your program of interest.

Do I need to submit official transcripts with my application?

Unofficial transcripts are accepted for application review. Official transcripts are required if an applicant is admitted and matriculates. It is required to provide enrollment management with an official transcript showing certification of a bachelor’s degree by the end of the first semester of graduate study. Students, who have submitted a FAFSA and will receive federal financial aid, must show degree certification prior to receiving funds (mid-August).

Can I request an application fee waiver?

Please contact to submit your request. Note that application fee waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis.

International Students

Can I upload my English Proficiency scores after I submit my application?

Yes, but it may delay your admission decision. It’s always recommended to upload as soon as you are able.

Can I waive language test scores?

Applicants may be exempt from the English Proficiency requirements if they have completed a bachelor's degree earned from an accredited U.S. institution. If you are requesting an English Proficiency waiver for any other reason, please contact .

Do you offer conditional admission for language?

Yes, if the applicant is admissible except for language skills, the department can elect to admit them conditionally to the English Language Institute or until their scores reach an admissible level.

When do I have to submit proof of financial means?

This can be submitted during the application process, or after program admission. Learn more about the application process.

Do I need to submit a translated transcript?

As an international student at Syracuse University, you will need your transcript evaluated by an education service such as the World Education Services (WES), to be sure you meet our requirements and have an equivalent 4-year degree.

Do you accept a three-year degree?

All students must hold, or be in the process of receiving, a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. or its equivalent. To consider a three-year degree a WES evaluation stating its equivalency or an additional year of study of a post-graduate diploma or similar will be required.

Yes, admits can defer their admission up to one calendar year, however any financial awards are subject to change.

Do I need to pay a tuition deposit?

A $500 non-refundable tuition deposit is required for all VPA students entering a master’s program. Upon matriculation, you’ll be able to submit your deposit within your admitted portal and it will be credited to your student account.
