Reimagining Classroom Assistance for Children with ADHD

Product name: LEVIT8

Topic/problem description:

Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often suffer from academic difficulties due to the symptoms of their disorder. On average, those with ADHD tend to have poorer academic performance than their peers who do not have the condition. These students, particularly those within the elementary and middle school age, have a hard time focusing and staying engaged throughout class. They also exhibit behaviors that are oftentimes distracting to other students and disruptive to the teacher. There needs to be a better solution to provide classroom assistance for children with ADHD through both tactile and digital means.

Solution:

Fidgeting and other restless behaviors can be addressed by the incorporation of fidget tools in the classroom. When fidgeting is restricted, students with ADHD can have a hard time focusing in class due to their unmet need for physical stimuli. Done properly, the affordance for fidgeting can increase time on-task and engagement while minimizing disruptive behavior. One of the most important aspects to consider while designing a fidget intervention is its need to be inconspicuous in order for it to not become a distraction. Students can fidget discreetly using LEVIT8, solving the need for stimuli and allowing them to focus on the class material.
