Eleven VPA Undergraduates Awarded Spring Research Funding from the SOURCE

Eleven College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA)  students were among the 93 Syracuse University undergraduates who received funding from the University’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (the SOURCE) in the form of SOURCE Grants (up to $5,000) and Renée Crown University Honors Program Awards (up to $5,000).

The SOURCE provides expanded funding opportunities and serves as a hub to foster and support diverse undergraduate engagement in faculty-guided scholarly research and creative inquiry across all disciplines and programs at the University. Student research and creative projects may be produced by students at all levels in classes, labs, recitals, as part of a distinction or thesis program, or independently.

The following VPA students received Spring 2021 SOURCE grants or awards for their projects:

  • Sachi Cecchetto, a junior environmental and interior design major in the School of Design, for “Cultural Response to Residential Design” (Jody Nyboer, faculty mentor), SOURCE Academic Year Grant
  • Isabelle Collins, a junior fashion design major in the School of Design, for “Authentically Sustainable Fashion” (Todd Conover, faculty mentor), SOURCE Academic Year Grant
  • Olivia Ferraro, a junior fashion design major in the School of Design, for “Slow Fashion” (Jeffrey Mayer, faculty mentor), SOURCE Student Association Summer Grant
  • Emily Graham, a junior music composition major in the Setnor School of Music for “Scoring for the Screen” (Natalie Draper, faculty mentor), Honors Program Crown Award
  • Cameron Gray, a junior film major in the Department of Transmedia, for “The Bootyshort Revolution” (Miso Suchy, faculty mentor), SOURCE Academic Year Grant
  • Connor Johnson, a junior acting major in the Department of Drama, for “Bid Day” (Ricky Pak, faculty mentor), Honors Program Crown Award
  • Justine Leslie-Smith, a senior film major in the Department of Transmedia, for “In My Heart” (Miso Suchy, faculty mentor), SOURCE Summer Grant
  • Kaitlyn Philavanh, a junior film major, for “Epoch” (Alex Mendez Giner, faculty mentor), Honors Program Crown Award
  • Anastacia Puertas, a junior film major, for “Blood Sisters” (Alex Mendez Giner, faculty mentor), Honors Program Crown Award
  • Connor Ritchie, a dual math and music composition first-year student in the College of Arts and Sciences and Setnor School of Music, for “The Colimitation Theory of Mutualism” (Kari Segraves, faculty mentor) SOURCE Student Association Summer Grant
  • Berri Wilmore, a junior communication and rhetorical studies major in the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, for “The Elder Archives” (Jorge Castillo, faculty mentor) SOURCE Summer Grant
