Roderick Martinez has worked as a corporate graphic designer for the national defense contractor Martin Marietta and as a creative director/designer for agencies in New York before starting his own visual communications firm in 1998.

His work represents regional, national, and international clients that contract him to design a wide range of communications that service private and public businesses.

His work emphasizes creativity through clean visual hierarchy and modern typographic philosophies. His in-depth knowledge of design, design history, and production enables him to solve design problems with innovative yet pragmatic solutions. His designs have won regional, national, and international awards.

Martinez has taught graphic design, advertising design, and psychology of advertising at Cazenovia College. He is the current program coordinator and tenured associate professor of communications design at VPA. He is a member of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and has served as faculty advisor of the Syracuse University AIGA student chapter. He has lectured on a range of design topics both regionally and nationally.

Martinez has been awarded seven Chancellor’s Awards for Public Engagement and Scholarship; these awards recognize his classes that exemplify the highest ideal of sustained, quality engagement at the University and with citizens in our community.
