Ben Dettelback is currently principal trombone with Symphoria (successor to the Syracuse Symphony) and instructor of trombone at Syracuse University.

Dettelback also serves as principal trombone of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra (Ithaca, New York) and has performed with groups such as the Buffalo Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic/Oratorio Society, Princeton Symphony, National Orchestral Institute + Festival, and the American Institute of Musical Study in Graz, Austria.

Dettelback recently appeared as a soloist with Symphoria and Maestro Lawrence Loh performing the final movement of Launy Grondahl’s Trombone Concerto during the 2022-23 season. He was also named a finalist in the 2018 International Trombone Associations Alto Trombone Competition.

Dettelback holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (B.M./P.C.) and Yale University (M.M.), where he studied with Larry Zalkind and Scott Hartman. When not playing trombone, he can be found baking bread, cooking, or hanging out with his cat, Kimchi.
