Syracuse University has been listed as one of Variety’s “Best Film Schools for 2019.” Film programs in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ (VPA) Department of Transmedia were included as part of the University’s listing, as well as programs in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
VPA offers both bachelor of fine arts and master of fine arts degree programs in film that focus on becoming a total filmmaker. VPA film students may:
- Take classes and shoot on a 15,000-square-foot sound stage
- Intern and work at American High—a Hollywood studio located in Syracuse—with director/producer Jeremy Garelick
- Study and intern in Los Angeles via the SULA program
- Attend the Sundance Ignite Program and other Sundance events
- Participate in the International Filmmaking Academy summer workshop in Bologna, Italy, or study abroad in Prague, Czech Republic
- Study with faculty members who have premiered films at Sundance, MoMA, Anthology Film Archives and the Black Maria Film Festival, among many others
- Have their creative work screened at national and international festivals
