Prior to joining the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Flores worked for the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, advising active military, veterans, and spouses through a career transition program.

 She also worked at Bryant & Stratton College in Liverpool, New York, as an academic advisor to traditional, non-traditional, and veteran students.

Flores holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Upon graduation, she spent several years working for a wide variety of mental health agencies in Delhi, New York, as well as Greenville, North Carolina. While residing in Greenville, North Carolina, she obtained her master’s degree in counselor education with a higher education, career counseling, and mental health track.
