During his tenure at Syracuse University, Carr served for over two decades as program coordinator for the industrial and interaction design program. He also launched the M.F.A. in design graduate program and co-developed the Syracuse Abroad London program for the School of Design.
Carr is an active member of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and he holds multiple patents for his work. As a champion of interdisciplinary education, he holds multiple appointments throughout the University including the Syracuse Center of Excellence, the School of Education, the Aging Studies Institute, and the Launchpad at Syracuse University Libraries. Working within the greater Syracuse community, he is a founding contributor to the ARISE Adaptive Design program, and he is currently working with industrial design alumnus Gianfranco Zaccai '70 H'09 on the Intelligence++ initiative, which seeks to create innovative products and services to assist individuals within the intellectual disability community.
