Jon Garland teaches applied horn lessons and Horn Ensemble in the Setnor School of Music. He was assistant principal horn of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) since 1997 and is now hornist with Symphoria: Central New York’s Professional Orchestra. He attended the Juilliard School, the Mannes College of Music, and the Aspen Music Festival, where he was a fellowship recipient. His major teachers included Philip Myers, Ranier DeIntinis, John Cerminaro, and Larry Johnson.

In addition to his duties with the SSO, he has performed with the Honolulu Symphony, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. He joined the faculty of the Setnor School of Music in 2002. He is chair of Symphony Syracuse and treasurer of the Professional Musicians of Central New York (A.F.M., Local 78).
