Artist Statement

My work in the film medium involves using narrative storytelling as a means of examining community, identity, and systems of oppression. In my writing and directing, I have been drawn to ideas and concepts exploring toxic masculinity within patriarchal society. My written works feature males suppressing true desire and emotion due to factors ranging from fear, shame, and morality. I place my characters in situations of extreme vulnerability, forcing them to confront their suppressed feelings, emotions, and desires. In my recent short film, "Nightfall," a prideful teenager, Nak, is stranded in the woods after a debilitating accident and must depend on his younger brother, Noah, for survival.

My current work, "bitter/sweet," is a fantasy short story depicting family grief as a magic fruit tree sprouting from buried emotions. I am interested in exploring different styles of filmmaking in the short form throughout my career, applying styles that feel appropriate for relevant stories.
