Artist Statement

My work engages topics of family dynamics, the Caribbean identity, and the woman’s experience in the modern world. I focus on narrative, one-character journeys through the unpredictable waves of life. I often blend dark humor and drama, and intertwine reality with unreal moments that express the character’s inner life. I prioritize seeing the world through their eyes, so whatever the spectator observes is always influenced by how the character is feeling.

Through storytelling, I attempt to make sense of my past and present. The goal of my work is to give an outlet to a feeling I might have been repressing. I construct characters as vessels, to ask impolite questions that I might hesitate to ask directly myself, a way to bring up difficult conversations.

All in all, I try to explore human emotions at their breaking point, trusting that catharsis can be a road towards understanding ourselves, a catalyst of growth.
