Artist Statement

My ceramic practice recreates the dialogue between composer, musician, and audience that I am familiar with through my education and career in clarinet and piano performance. I employ iterative systems of fabrication that require me to enact a work, the way a performer enacts a musical score. As with any performance, mistakes are inevitable, and by allowing for their accretion in my work, I connect with my own fallibility while providing an invitation to the viewer to find humanity in what might otherwise be rote execution.
