Artist Statement

Fixated on consumer culture, my practice explores ways in which we physically and mentally respond to the consistent exposure to an overload of products. I work with the aesthetics and volume of a certain type of popular objects that exist in the retail spaces of both primary and secondary markets - as they show up in stores like Target and Walmart, and how they show up again in spaces like Ebay and Craigslist. The mainstream aesthetics I am drawn to are loud, cute, romantic, and zany, and the resulting images as well as the way they are produced repeat almost infinitely, highlighting the excess of these objects in the world.

Through engaging in self portraits, I use humor as a way to combat my anxieties surrounding consumerism and often subvert objects' intended functions by using them in nonsensical ways. I employ my body as a prop malleable and capable of shape shifting, designed to engage physically with my collection of objects.
