Artist Statement

I think of mortality as a marriage between life and death, the fruitful union that is continually renewing and renewable, giving birth to meaning. Through a performance and sculptural practice, I explore the tender and grievous nature of mortality. My work uses materials for their substance and function to create phenomena. The partnership of life and death are the physical material of the work while the marriage is the phenomena, the ephemeral happening that bond the two together.

Artist Bio

Jared LeClaire (He/Him) is a sculpture and performance artist currently working in upstate New York. He received a B.F.A. degree at the University of Wisconsin Stout in 2020 and began an M.F.A. program at Syracuse University in 2021. Through his performance and sculptural practice, he explores the tender and grievous nature of mortality.
