Artist Statement

Growing up in Alaska, vibrant, untouched landscapes were ever-present in the peripheral. My gaze has always been drawn to the boundaries of these worlds, where what is natural meets the manufactured. I am interested in where nature abuts and intertwines with the objects and structures that make up the human systems. I find myself thinking often about the structures, movement, and growth that is intrinsic in the natural world while making.

The forms I craft often relate to historical pottery forms and the tradition of ceramics that has long captured my attention. These ceramic vessels represent the link between culture and nature.

My practice focuses on building and carving techniques that reference the recurring structures and segmentation in both the natural world and its artificial counterpart. I am interested in the contrast between these two worlds and where they collide, compromise, and collaborate with each other.
