Artist Statement

My work is driven by perceived idyllic times, places, experiences, and relationships. I often return to the troubling intersections of media and reality, and the effect of film and social media on the mind. Recognition of oneself through such media is a substitute for real, tactile experiences. Quest-fulfilling movies propel the lead along a trajectory where all obstacles are overcome and a state of enlightenment is ultimately achieved.

In reality, this linear unfolding of life is unattainable. We produce thousands of images a year on an individual level, elevating unconnected moments in time, curating our identities, perhaps into something other than the truth. The result is a patchwork of seemingly idyllic moments constructed for ourselves and others. Through my work, I consider how this connection to digital media affects our perceptions of ourselves, our memories, and one another.
