Artist Statement

Cara Crowley is an interdisciplinary artist whose primary mediums are painting and performance art. Her current work uses the imagery of the sheep and shepherding to explore her feelings living in a female body. Having her body manipulated in the way a shepard handles a sheep brings into question themes of personal agency and autonomy at a time where these rights have been called into question. Her upbringing following the Catholic religion has a significant impact on the choice of symbolism and politics surrounding her body. The work is exploratory, questioning and highly driven by personal experience.

Through her art, Carolyn Crowley confronts societal norms and unravels the complexities of womanhood, sparking conversations about identity, gender rights, and self-expression.
