Artist Statement

I relate best to others through a shared sense of humor. If you can make me laugh, I can look past innumerable objectionable qualities. Laughter can be used to break down emotional walls, but it can also be used to derail difficult conversations. Humor is a highly variable tool, and in that sense, it comes with substantial responsibility. It is the entry point through which I access my audience’s vulnerability and offer my own in return. By recognizing the absurdity in the mundane, I am able to utilize found objects as visual language, creating work that places humor alongside familiarity and unease. The disarming reassurance that laughter brings is often challenged by the unexpected, the unexplained, and the uncomfortable. The relationship forged between these ideas demands further investigation, deeper inquiry into my intentions and materials, as a clear answer is rarely found.
