Artist Statement

Life and death are universal experiences, and a cemetery is that borderline where the living can walk in peace. Particularly in cemeteries over a hundred years old, they encompass not just individual lives, but also the history and culture of a region.

As a student in both the advertising and the illustration fields, I've chosen cemetery tourism advertising as the topic for my visual thesis because I want to break the dark image traditionally associated with cemetery tourism in travel narratives. With the illustrated tourism storybook for Syracuse Oakwood Cemetery, "My Unknown Veronica," I hope to explore the possibilities of cemetery tourism with a fresh perspective and a more vibrant and brilliant visual language.
