Artist Statement

I am an illustrator from China. Since I was a child, I have always enjoyed reading all kinds of picture books and comics, sometimes beautiful pictures are more attractive than the words. In my work I always try to use various painting methods: watercolor, ink wash, printmaking, or digital painting. Because illustration can also be a language, it is possible to convey complex thoughts and emotions through images. When I was preparing my graduation work, I recalled my hometown, Anhui, and the cultural heritage of my hometown: the "Four Treasures of the Study" - Brush, Ink, Paper, and Inkstone, as well as the people and events that influenced me most while growing up. These memories and emotions became the inspiration for my work. Through painting, I try to pass on the cultural heritage of my hometown, unearth the forgotten or neglected stories, and re-present these stories to the audience with my brush. I dig deep into the connotations and characteristics of these cultural elements and convey these messages through the presentation of my artworks. In this creative process, I tried to use a combination of brushes and digital painting to create the artwork, using brushes to draw the lines and digital painting to color them. In this process, I not only found my spiritual home and cultural confidence but also became more deeply aware of the importance and uniqueness of these cultures. I feel proud of the culture of my hometown.

I am an illustrator from China. In my work, I use a variety of painting methods to create my work. In my visual thesis, I used a combination of traditional Chinese brush painting and digital painting, preserving the traditional hand-drawn lines while applying the rich colors of digital painting. I use this way to pass on the cultural heritage of my hometown and to explore the forgotten or neglected stories
