Yanyi Liu

As a woman born and raised in Asia, I am aware that gender issues have become a widely discussed topic in East Asian societies in recent decades. Because the old social division of labor is no longer adapted to the development of the new age society, Asian societies are going through a period of transition in gender ideology, and my original intention for this project was to document the transformation and struggle of women's thinking in East Asia during this period. The main characters of my work are a mother and daughter who have chosen different paths in their lives because of their different social backgrounds and personal experiences, but they both need to face different dilemmas in their respective lives. In this work, I also interviewed women of different ages and social backgrounds, and in the video, they talked about their personal experiences and their different views on gender issues.

Yanyi Liu was born and raised in Chongqing, China, a place where almost all food is spicy. Her work has a clear personal style, and each character in her illustrations has their own personality.

Recently her work has been selected in Communication Arts, AI-AP Motion Art Awards, 3x3 Illustration Annual, World Illustration Awards, etc.
