Sierra Haynes

Observing my family through the process of photographing has been important to my process and work for many years. After the loss of a family member, the need to create images of my family became compulsive. I am able to learn more about my family and grow closer to them through both the act of photographing them as well as through viewing the images later. Family photographs have the power to feel both generic and intimate simultaneously, and through this I am able to share my experiences and observations. The spaces that we inhabit as a family reveal details about us, such as class and style.
