Leah Bella Zinder

“For this collection, I bring together lacemaking and metalsmithing to create an imagined table setting for my future family. The edging of the tablecloth is handwoven in bobbin lace and portrays meaningful numbers within its repeated pattern. Stains on the once-white tablecloth are celebrated through embroidery as a record of the story they mark. The base of each tableware lines up with a stain as though it is growing up from the tablecloth. I dream of the family who will one day join me at my table to use these objects, and for now begin my traditions proudly on my own.”

Leah Bella Zinder is an artist passionate about historical crafts including lace-making and metalsmithing. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Arts at Syracuse University, and received her BFA in Metals from the University of Illinois. Leah is also involved in the local Jewish community, where she teaches young children.
