Kaicheng Yang

My work focuses on concept design and visual development because I have a strong obsession with world-building and exploring the formation of different visual styles. In my opinion, the process of the formation of any successful style is closely related to the essence of artistic creation -- internal expression and resonance, and realistic style is the most direct adjusting of art to the real world. For my visual thesis, I combined Chinese elements with what I learned by studying over 100 war robot designs from America and Japan, for my concept design of a Chinese version of the film Pacific Rim.

Kaicheng Yang is from China and got his BFA in Environmental Design from Sichuan University, Chengdu. He studied illustration at ArtCenter College of Design for 1 year before he transferred to Syracuse University. His work includes fine art, comics, and concept art, in both realistic and abstract styles.
