My whole life I have felt doubt from others (family, teachers, friends) in my choices. My tender sensitivity has internalized this projected hesitation to mean something about me isn’t good enough. I feel misunderstood and othered. Intellectual understanding has provided comfort, but no relief from these grievances. Process in art-making provides the space for me to be in my body and work through a visual language that often leaves me amiss for words.

I make work to process trauma, to call into question cultural beliefs of what we inherently regard as truth. I like playing with the cliche, taboo, unexpected, silly. I believe there is potential in art’s ability to use humor as a tool to point out glaring offenses and absurdities in society, and I often use funnies to showcase my atypical perception. The art I make is typically based in projects and has developed to include subjects such as feminism, death, the body, humor, instinct, and overall criticism of social mores.

I create imagery, sculpture, and abstraction through an unlimited range of materials and processes. Often I consider myself a channel for the work to come through me. The creative process is a negotiation with an outer being and an inner knowing. Laboring with these concepts brings me closer to the honesty of my subject.
