Master of fine arts (M.F.A.) candidates in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) will present the thesis exhibition “Carrying the Thick Present” at three Syracuse University exhibition spaces that are partner venues of the Coalition of Museums and Art Centers.

The exhibition features the work of 24 M.F.A. candidates from VPA’s School of Art, School of Design and Department of Transmedia and is curated by Manuela Hansen, a New York City-based art historian and curator.
The overarching theme of “Carrying the Thick Present” takes shape by reflecting upon three interrelated notions–intimacy, fabulation, trauma–each unfolding in one different gallery. It is by working through these notions that the 24 artists participating in this exhibition have found their ways for engaging with, telling, and “Carrying the Thick Present”we live in and with it.

The exhibition schedule is as follows. All events are free and open to the campus community.  Please visit each exhibition venue website for specific visitor information impacted by the current COVID-19 pandemic.
