Dr. Barbara M. Tagg

Dr. Barbara M. Tagg is an Instructor at Syracuse University where she conducts the Syracuse University Women's Choir and is a member of the music education faculty. She is Founder and Artistic Director of the Syracuse Children's Chorus, currently celebrating their 26th season. In demand internationally, Dr. Tagg has presented concerts and workshops in England, Europe, Canada, Hong Kong and China, as well as for universities and choral organizations throughout the United States. Dr. Tagg chaired the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Committee on Children's Choirs from 1988 to 1995 and subsequently became the first nationally elected chair of the ACDA Repertoire & Standards Committee, a position she held from 1995 to 2003. She is a member of the board of directors of Chorus America and was Co-Dean of Chorus America's orchestral conducting masterclass held in San Francisco, California in January 2007 for children/youth chorus directors. Dr. Tagg was Guest Editor of the March 1993, 1998, and 2003 issues of The Choral Journal devoted to children's choirs, repertoire and standards, and American choral music respectively. Recognized for her dedication to American music and new compositions, Dr. Tagg has premiered over 80 works for treble choirs. She conducts the annual Children in Harmony choral festival in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Tagg conducted the Adirondack Children's Chorus at the Adirondack Festival of American Music for 22 summers. She is an Honorary Member of the Ernst Bacon Foundation, a member of Pi Kappa Lambda. Dr. Tagg was recipient of the 2006 Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts Dean's Outstanding Alumni Award. She has also been honored by ACDA, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Civic Morning Musicals, Sigma Alpha Iota and other music organizations for her commitment to musical excellence, music education and to the choral art.
