Teen artists who completed this year’s Talent Agency Summer Intensive under the guidance of faculty and students from the College of Visual and Performing Arts (SU:VPA) will present their portfolios at an open house on Friday, Aug. 12, from 4-6:30 p.m. at Point of Contact Gallery, 350 W. Fayette St., Syracuse.
Talent Agency exists to serve Syracuse area high school students from economically disadvantaged communities by providing a consistent means for art and design portfolio development and mentorship. Its goal is to develop the students’ natural talents and set participants in the program on a course to college art and design programs or quality technical education and training. The SU:VPA students, who are from the college’s School of Art and Department of Transmedia, mentor the artists and offer instruction in drawing, painting, 3D/sculpture, photography, video, illustration and digital art.
Talent Agency is co-directed by faculty members Yvonne Buchanan and Dorene Quinn. Assistant director is Joe Turek G’18, who is also an instructor. Other instructors are Cait Finley G’18, Rachel Fein-Smolinski G’17, Andrew Pappas G’18 and Sherri Liu ’16. Drawing assistants are Aysha Hamouda G’18 and Taro Takizawa G’17; program assistant is Jessica Whitley ’18; and program intern is Kaia Morales ’20.
