Alumni of the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Department of Drama and Tepper Semester are invited to apply for the 2012 season of the Araca Project. The Araca Project, an initiative of the drama department and the Araca Group, one of New York City’s leading entertainment production and merchandising companies, gives selected theater artists the opportunity to take on the full artistic and fiscal responsibilities of producing their work off-Broadway.
Through the Araca Project, artists take initiative and assume the responsibility of a producer, including securing production rights from an author, casting, rehearsing, assembling design elements, raising capital, engaging a creative team, loading in and out a physical production, budgeting, marketing and maintaining a box office/ticketing system. The Araca Group, in conjunction with Syracuse University, mentors the artists as they move into production; however, the artists are responsible for running their shows.
Candidates for the 2012 Araca Project are graduates of the Department of Drama and Tepper Semester classes of 2002-2012. In June, selected works will advance to a two-week Producing Intensive, where artists will participate in workshops in such areas as general management, publicity, press, marketing and technical direction. The Producing Intensive will culminate during fall 2012, when the selected artists will produce their work at the American Theatre of Actors in New York City.
The deadline to apply for the 2012 Araca Project is Friday, March 16. For more information and an application, visit http://www.araca.com/?page_id=1934.
