Josh Dekaney, instructor of music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts' Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, received a 2016 Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) in the category of "Best Other Style" for his album "Reel Time Evolution," a collection of original music for percussion, drums, and electronics that features solo pieces as well duo collaborations with Mark Doyle, Jimmy Haslip, and Heath Hanlin, associate professor and chair of the Department of Transmedia. It also includes previously released tracks from projects with Samba Laranja, Syracuse University's Brazilian Ensemble, and Grupo Pagán.

“Reel Time Evolution” was mastered by legendary producer Mark Doyle. It also involved collaborations with SU:VPA alumna Annie Detrick ’07 (album artwork); Setnor faculty members Bill DiCosimo (synth work), Melissa Gardiner (trombone overdubs) and James Abbott (engineering); and Setnor sound recording technology graduate student Jonathan Kane (engineering).
