For the spring 2015 semester, communications design students from the Department of Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts worked for Food Bank of Central New York in the "Design Project Management" class. The class formed into several specific design teams that created and designed promotional and communication strategies in response to the Food Bank of CNY design brief.
The 20 communications design majors established ways to increase involvement with a younger audience, as well as clarify and increase the awareness of the Food Bank in central and northern New York. They are also assisting the organization in extending and refining its existing brand.
The students will be showcasing their final work from the semester on Wednesday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. during a formal presentation to the client that is open to the public. The presentation will take place in the first-floor auditorium of the Nancy Cantor Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St.
“Partnering with Food Bank of Central New York has allowed us to gain valuable practical experience we couldn’t get anywhere else, and we are very excited to present our final work,” says Crystal Yang, the student leader of the events team.
As stated on its website, the mission of Food Bank of Central New York includes “…[eliminating] hunger through nutritious food distribution, education and advocacy in cooperation with the community.” The Food Bank’s continuous efforts and accomplishments to assist those in need of nutritious foods remains the focal point of the organization. It supplies nutritious food to the emergency food network—252 food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters within 11 counties of central and northern New York.
