Steven Heyman, a native of Syracuse, received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School as a scholarship student of Adele Marcus. He continued there in the Professional Studies Program and then furthered his studies at the Hochschule fur Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna as a student of Hans Graf. He has performed numerous solo recitals, chamber music concerts, and concerto appearances throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. In New York, he has appeared at Lincoln Center, Columbia University, Carnegie Hall, and as an invited artist for a Juilliard tribute to the late Miss Marcus. Locally, he performs frequently, including over two dozen appearances as featured soloist with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Heyman has won top prizes in over a dozen national and international competitions including the Beethoven International in Vienna, the Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City, and the Palm Beach Invitational Competition (top American). He has appeared with the Juilliard Orchestra in Lincoln Center after winning the school's concerto competition.

Active in new music, he is a core member of The Society for New Music where he has been involved in dozens of premieres and has CD recordings on numerous labels. Mr. Heyman frequently performs at summer music festivals in both the United States and abroad and has collaborated with leading players in over a dozen major American orchestras. He has served on the faculty of Syracuse University since 1988, where he is a former recipient of the Setnor School of Music's Most Outstanding Faculty Member Award and is currently Co-Chair of the Keyboard Department. In addition to being Artist-in-Residence at Colgate University, Mr. Heyman frequently performs with his wife, pianist Amy Giller Heyman, in both four-hand and two-piano concerts.
