Audition Requirements
An audition is required for all applicants to the Setnor School of Music.
Undergraduate Piano
Applicants auditioning on piano should perform from memory three contrasting pieces selected from three of the categories listed below. One of the works must be from category A. Applicants also should be prepared to play selected scales and arpeggios. Sight-reading will be required.
A. A work b J. S. Bach such as Three-Part Sinfonia, French Suite (3-4 movements), or one set of Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier
B. One movement of a sonata or other significant work by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert
C. A work from the Romantic period
D. A work composed after 1900, contrasting in style to the other works chosen
Undergraduate Organ
Applicants auditioning on organ should perform three contrasting pieces from the categories listed below, in addition to a hymn. Preferably, one piece should be memorized.
A. A work by J. S. Bach or a work by another Baroque period composer
B. A work from the Classical or Romantic period
C. A work composed after 1900, contrasting in style to the other works chosen
Graduate
Applicants for the graduate program in solo performance should present a representative recital program (a minimum of 40 minutes of music.) International applicants may, in lieu of a live audition, provide a high-quality video (DVD or VHS); an audio CD may be submitted to support the video, to provide better audio fidelity. Applicants auditioning for the ensemble arts program should present a representative program of solo, vocal, and chamber music. Applicants should consult with the chair of the Keyboard Department to finalize repertoire choices.
