Call for 2008-2009 IRG Fellows

June 29th, 2008

How do I apply to be a 2008/2009 IRG fellow? After the 2008-2009 IRG leaders are selected, they will distribute a call for fellowship applications in late April that explains the theme and requests that applicants submit a cv, a one page statement describing how the theme relates to their work. Prior to submitting this material, applicants should notify their Department Chair of their intent to submit an application. Recipients will be announced by June 1, 2008.

What is expected of IRG Fellows? Each participant will develop a proposal for either a course or a research project. These proposals will be detailed enough to submit for further development. Examples of further development include presentation of a course proposal to a Department Chair for approval or submission of the research project for outside funding, exhibition, or publication. In addition, Fellows will participate in monthly projects-in-progress workshops and then present their project the year after their tenure as a Fellow during on of the scheduled IRG lunch series events.

How are IRG themes/fellows selected? Each year, the IRG selects an interdisciplinary theme from faculty in CVPA who would like to lead the ensuing group of fellows. Possibilities for topics are limited only by the imaginations of those conceiving them, so long as they encourage interdisciplinary inquiry. Once the new faculty leaders and theme are selected by a council made up of prior IRG leaders, a university-wide call for IRG fellows is distributed by the newly selected IRG leaders, who will then select their group of eight to ten fellows from a university-wide pool of applicants.

What do IRG fellows receive? IRG fellows will participate in monthly seminars structured to offer meaningful interdisciplinary feedback on fellows’ projects and receive a stipend or course release for developing new cross-disciplinary courses, exhibitions, performances, and/or publications.
