The bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree program in art photography is designed for students who plan to use photography as their primary creative medium. The faculty is committed to teaching theory, history, and practice of photography in an integrated academic and studio setting. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas and are guided in learning the skills that will support these ideas.

Coursework provides thorough training in black-and-white, color, and digital photography, as well as an opportunity to explore many alternative photography-related techniques. Work in such contemporary media as computer imaging, film, and video is encouraged.

Our facility includes spacious, separate black-and-white and color darkrooms, each with 20 stations; a digital imaging facility; a shooting studio; a computer lab; and a media resource library. Equipment includes automated, large-format color processors, extensive electronic flash and quartz lighting equipment, and camera formats from 35mm to 8 x 10. Students are encouraged to experiment with a variety of camera formats and other photography equipment items that may not ordinarily be available to them.

Our graduates have gone on to exhibit their photographs nationally and work for magazines, advertising agencies, museums, galleries, corporations, and educational institutions.
