The bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree program in theater design and technology combines both classroom and hands-on learning experiences. The 130-credit curriculum stresses building a firm foundation in the arts and the humanities as well as in the applied aspects of the theater. In the first year, you participate in the foundation program in the School of Art and Design to enhance skills in drawing and visual perception.
Our students design many Department of Drama productions and work with the professional staff and company of Syracuse Stage. Seniors in the program may be eligible for internships with Syracuse Stage.
Students interested in design may specialize in one or more of the following areas: set design, costume design, and lighting design. The design/technical theater program also offers an exposure to the use of computers as design tools.
Students interested in the technical aspects of theater may focus experience credits in the areas of scenery, properties, costumes, lights, or sound.
Students who wish to explore a curriculum that combines techncial theater with a more traditional arts and sciences program of study may apply for the B.S. in drama with a technical theater emphasis. Click here to learn more about this program.
