Stage Management

The stage management program prepares the student for a career as a professional stage manager. The program leads to a bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree and requires 124 credits, which are a combination of classes and experiential learning. The department works hand in hand with Syracuse Stage to provide a learning environment that emulates the professional world of the stage manager.

As freshmen, stage management students participate behind the scenes as production assistants. From the second year on, the students participate as assistant stage managers and stage managers for productions on the main stage and in the Black Box Theatre, an intimate performing space. Advanced students may qualify for internships with Syracuse Stage productions that allow them to work as production assistants on professional productions.
