Painting

Our bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree program in painting emphasizes individuality of artistic expression. We encourage you to experiment in new directions and to remain open to innovative ideas and approaches as you develop your own unique style. You will develop technical skills in painting, drawing, color, and pictorial composition through extensive studio work in oils, acrylics, watercolor, and non-traditional media. Courses in art history and critical studies expose you to concepts of the past and present and heighten your visual and intellectual perceptions.

You study under faculty members whose styles and approaches to painting are diverse. Our graduates have gone on to pursue countless venues for exhibiting nationally and internationally as well as teaching in higher education.

Facilities include well-lighted studios that have special skylights receiving north light, and a complete workshop.

The School of Art and Design feels that drawing plays a vital and primary role in the creative life of an artist. Click here to read more about this common thread that weaves through our art and design programs.
