Interior designers plan, design, and detail elements of interior space. The bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree program in interior design emphasizes a three-dimensional, architecture-based approach to creating humane, enabling, and ecologically sensitive interior environments for living, working, and recreation. The program is singled out for its emphasis on concept generation and creative problem solving.

Within this professional, architecturally oriented program you will learn to design interiors for residential, commercial, public, and special purpose uses. You will develop computer-aided design and presentation expertise. At the upper levels your projects involve working for actual community and corporate organizations. Art and design studio electives enhance your ability to think creatively. Historic preservation, design management, gerontology, and human factors are specialty options. The program shares studios and courses with the bachelor of science (B.S.) program in environmental design (interiors).

Graduates work in residential and contract design within corporations, institutions, and architectural and interior design firms. The program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and sponsors an active student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. It continues its ranking as one of the ten outstanding interior design programs in published polls by design societies and professionals.
