Illustrators arouse curiosity, stimulate interest, tell stories, illuminate issues, and motivate. This bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree program balances imagination and individual expression with continual refinement of skills in drawing, painting, and design, as well as research. You will take studio courses in drawing for reproduction, illustration concepts, and the history and development of illustration, and will develop familiarity with various media.

Each year, our students’ work is accepted into the national Society of Illustrators competition and is often in the top running. Alumni of the program are successful in areas including illustration for greeting cards, children’s books, graphic novels, magazines, and advertising, as well as in animation and computer-generated images.

The School of Art and Design feels that drawing plays a vital and primary role in the creative life of an artist. Click here to read more about this common thread that weaves through our art and design programs.
