Summer Counselor-Teacher
Beam Camp (www.beamcamp.com), Strafford, NH; Dates of Employment: 7/14/08 - 8/19/08; Salary: $1500 (food and boarding included). Please email cover letter and resume to Brian and brian@beamcamp.com. Beam is a summer camp for the fine and manual arts where each summer campers aged 7-16 collaborate on a spectacular project. Our mission is to help kids explore what it means to make things with their own hands and brains and how that kind of creativity is relevant and applicable to everything in their lives. They transform plan into action, idea into artifact, and personal achievement into community success. We're looking for sculptors, carpenters, ceramicists, musicians, engineers, designers, and big thinkers (20 and over) who would like to share with children (ages 7-15) their skills and passion for making things. A Beam Guide (that's what we call counselors) provides a safe and engaging environment for campers acting as bunk counselor and mentor in creative activities. Beam Guides teach mini-courses of their own design and collaborate with the campers on the execution of the spectacular Beam Project. Qualifications: We are looking for people who are excited about something- anything from structural engineering to story telling to just life in general- that they want to share with the campers. Counselors should enjoy working in groups (especially groups of young people!) and collaborating with
others. Counselors are flexible, creative problem solvers (willing to adapt to the changing needs of a situation and not afraid to try something new). They are self-motivated, hard-working, and able to put in long hours. Counselors should probably enjoy the outdoors too. (Posted 4/4/08).
