Our master of arts (M.A.) degree program in museum studies offers a curriculum based on research, scholarship, design, and hands-on training that prepares you for a wide range of positions in different types of museums. We want our alumni to be resilient, adaptable, and competent working professionals.

The SUArt Galleries provide the main setting for real-world experience. Students learn that museum operations are indeed a team effort, requiring you to roll up your sleeves and be actively involved in a variety of tasks and responsibilities. Experience is also gained through required internships; our students have worked at such institutions as the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Faculty work with you in all aspects of the exhibition process, organize field trips to museums and conferences, and bring professionals to campus to talk with students. Because you are part of the University, you also have the opportunity to study in other fields, including anthropology, art history, or public relations.
