Fiber and Textile Arts
Our bachelor of fine arts (B.F.A.) degree program in fiber and textile arts takes a fine arts approach to creating works of art with materials such as cotton, silk, wool, linen, and jute, as well as plastics, paper, metal, and rubber. You will explore your own creative expression by investigating not only on-loom weaving and tapestry techniques, but also fabric dyeing, felting, basketry, stitchery, and mixed media. You will use traditional and contemporary technology to work with interlaced and interlocked structures, both on and off the loom. Later, you will study more advanced techniques, concepts, and history, which prepare you to pursue your own artistic goals, and you will work closely with faculty to develop your individual interests.
The program has multi-harness looms of several sizes and facilities for dyeing.
The School of Art and Design feels that drawing plays a vital and primary role in the creative life of an artist. Click here to read more about this common thread that weaves through our art and design programs.
