Dean's Message

The College of Visual and Performing Arts is a dynamic community of artists, designers, performers, and scholars. Positioned at the center of the wider academic research university, our college provides students with the unique opportunity to work at the intersection of culture, the arts, media, and politics.

Our students not only work hard in their studios and classrooms—they also collaborate with others across campus and around the globe. This type of broad exposure is critical in their development as artists, designers, performers, and scholars, so our innovative curricula are designed to provide a great diversity of choice and opportunity.

Our outstanding faculty consists of leaders in their chosen discipline, and they are actively engaged in exhibiting, writing, performing, and other professional endeavors. They are teachers, but they also inspire, advise, and support our students as they develop their creative vision. The faculty is passionate, and their passion is contagious, pushing students to think critically and never be confined to any one aesthetic or point of view.

I encourage prospective students to explore our web site and picture themselves in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. If you are one of our more than 22,000 alumni, I invite you to reconnect with us via the news and events in the alumni section of this site. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
