Biography:
A native of Syracuse and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, tenor Jonathan English has performed a wide range of musical styles, including opera and oratorio (with ensembles such as the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, Rochester Opera Theatre, Opera Theatre of Syracuse, Oswego Opera, Wellesley Opera, Boston’s Cantata Singers, New Hampshire Symphony, Pennsylvania Sinfonia, and Rochester Philharmonic), art song, choral, Broadway, and modern vocal chamber music. He is especially proud of his association with new music, premiering works by Samuel Adler, Steven Albert, Warren Benson, Sydney Hodkinson, Daniel Pinkham, Stanley Walden, and many others.  Additionally, English has been a critically praised stage director.  His productions include David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men, James McClure’s Laundry and Bourbon and Lonestar, Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple, and Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow.  Currently, Mr. English is also the executive director of Oswego Opera and serves on the board of directors for the Ernst Bacon Society and Syracuse’s Civic Morning Musicals.
