Biography:
Kenneth Meyer was first-prize winner at the Music Teacher’s National Association Collegiate Artist Competition. Since his professional concert debut at the Teatro de la Opera de Maracay, Dr. Meyer has performed in Europe, South America, and throughout North America. In addition to live concerts, his performances have been featured on film, radio, and on the Albany Records label. Dr. Meyer is frequently in demand as a guest artist at numerous colleges and universities across the country. An active performer and teacher, he has recently been featured at the Rome, Alexandria, Eastman Guitar Summerfest, and the Alirio Diaz Guitar festivals. Dr. Meyer’s commitment to new music has led to awards from the Barlow Endowment and the Argosy Foundation, interpretive instruction from Milton Babbitt, and premiere performances of compositions by Leslie Basset, Edward Green, James Piorkowski, Nicolas Scherzinger, Donald J. Sparr, and Canadian composer Robert Baker. His diversity as a musician has led to performances with the Syracuse Opera, the Broadway touring production of the Who’s rock opera, Tommy, and most recently, a fundraising performance for Syracuse University attended by former President Bill Clinton. Dr. Meyer holds degrees in music composition and performance from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees from the Eastman School of Music. He has served on the faculties of East Carolina University, SUNY Fredonia, and the Eastman School of Music, and currently directs the guitar studies program at the Setnor School of Music. Additionally, Dr. Meyer serves on the faculties of Hobart and William Smith colleges.
