Biography:
David Rezak began managing musical groups in 1969 and founded DMR Booking Agency in 1973. The company grew rapidly and is recognized nationally as a respected regional talent agency and events production firm. Rezak worked actively to further the scope and recognition of the music scene in upstate New York. He pioneered video as a music marketing tool as early as 1972 and in the 1990s was a charter board member of the Syracuse Area Music Awards (The SAMMYS), producing or co-producing several SAMMY’s shows. His community service efforts have included booking every one of the award winning Parties in the Plaza series since its inception. He has contributed his expertise to a wide variety of charitable causes.
Diversification led to the founding of a record label, concert promotions, and an artist management firm. In 1999 he was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame.
In 1995 Rezak joined the music industry faculty at Syracuse University as an adjunct professor. He now teaches three courses, including Music Industry and the Media, a marketing class that stresses results for music business projects. Rezak and his students founded the Syracuse University Recordings and the Marshall Street Records labels, which have now released 16 CDs. He also initiated the Soyars Leadership Lecture Series, which puts top level music executives in direct contact with students on a weekly basis.
In summer 2003, David sold his business and joined the staff of the the College of Visual and Performing Arts as director of program design and instructor of music industry. He was charged by VPA Dean Carole Brzozowski with the design of a new music and entertainment Industries curriculum. The multi-disciplinary Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment Industries will launch in fall 2007. Housed in VPA, it will include considerable course work at SU's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Whitman School of Management, The College of Arts and Sciences. Rezak now serves as director of the Bandier Program.
