  TIME ARTS    
  FND 112 Special Topics in Time Arts: Experimental Animation (3 credits) this introductory studio course explores animation through the use of design, drawing, and 3-D. Students will experiment with claymation, direct drawing on 16mm film and collage. Use of non-conventional materials and approaches will be emphasized. Students will also learn how to compose and integrate sound into their animation. No experience necessary.    
         
  DRAWING    
 

FND 114 Special Topics in Foundation Drawing: Drawing Through the Figure (3 credits) a studio course utilizing the figure as subject matter. Students are introduced to the range of approaches relevant to the act of direct observation.  This course encourages students to perceive the dynamic forces underling the structural construct and expressiveness of the human body. The essential aspects of proportion, gesture, kinetics, volume, and compositional inventiveness will be explored through a variety of drawing media within a historical and contemporary context to achieve a variety of results. No previous experience is necessary.

   
         
   

FND 100: Natural forms in Ornament (3 credits)  This is an introductory drawing and painting course which will focus on the uses of natural forms (flowers, leaves, animals, insects, etc.) in decorative ornament.  It will focus on products for the textile, jewelry and paper goods industry.

   
         
  TWO DIMENSIONAL CREATIVE PROCESSES    
 

FND 116: Special Topics in Two-Dimensional Creative Processes – Printmaking Workshop (3 credits)A studio course with hands-on experience in the printmaking lab featuring three disciplines of printmaking: Monotype, Relief, Intaglio. Students will work in each area for 5 weeks and develop a portfolio of prints that explores ideas and drawing methods in each print media. Assignments will be designed to give the foundation student an understanding of: composition, line, form, balance, tone, observational drawing, research, revision, development of a conceptual idea and technical skill as related to each print media.  Critiques will be held after each assignment to acquaint the foundation student with the form of open discussion, presentation of ideas and critical feedback. No previous experience is necessary

   
         
    FND 116: Special Topics in Two-Dimensional Creative Processes: Color  (3 credits) a studio course designed to offer the students an opportunity to explore the fundamentals of color. Students will begin to develop a knowledge and understanding of color and its character and function. Through a series of in-class and out-of-class work, the students will use paint, paper and a variety of other color media to explore the complexities of color and color interaction. No previous experience is necessary  
   
         
  DIMENSIONAL ARTS    
 

FND 118: Special Topics in Dimensional Arts: Functional Sculpture  (3 credits) This course will explore all aspects of making functional objects, such as – but not limited to – furniture. Whether it be a chair or a hockey stick, the emphases will be on how these objects closely interact with the human body, as well as how they visually impact the surroundings in which they are placed. Students will design and fully execute at least two highly original functional objects over the course of the semester. The primary material will be wood, with the freedom to incorporate additional materials. No previous experience is necessary.
